As part of our Girl's Brigade badge work,
we were asked to set up and run a fundraising event towards Tear
Fund's Water Aid project. For this, we had to organise and prepare
a presentation about disadvantaged Countries and the people living
there. The main Country we focused on was Uganda, which is a very
poor and under funded Country.
FACTS
· Throughout the developing world women and children have
to spend hours collecting water weighing up to twenty kilograms
the equivalent of over seas luggage. ·
As part of the evening, we presented
facts on Tear Fund and the conditions that many people have to live
in aswell as ways in which we can help.
Did you know?
.. ·
Disease in water accounts for 80% of illness in developing countries.
· 40% of the worlds food production comes from irrigated
lands · It takes 1000 tonnes of water to grow one of wheat.
We also did a quiz to test peoples knowledge
of water. Peoples results were very poor; surprise surprise
Tear Fund is a dedicated team of people
who work towards providing people in third world countries with
a fresh, clean and easily accessible water supply, to help prevent
thousands of people dying from water related diseases and to help
the people to become more self-sufficient. To help them achieve
this goal they set up the Water Aid Project.
